Imagine going to your local supermarket or grocery store, and deciding to set yourself a challenge of parking your car in every available space until you have done them all.

Well, that is exactly what a dad from Devizes in the UK did at his local Sainsbury’s after he got bored in 2024.

Gareth Wild had form with this kind of challenge, having done so at his previous home in Kent, a task which took six years.

Having moved to a different county, this time Wiltshire, UK, he decided to do it all over again, and the BBC News caught wind of his plans, which he was finally able to complete after two years.

Why Gareth Wild spent two years parking in every space at the supermarket

For a plan like this to succeed, the parking enthusiast had to do more than just make a mental note of where he was parking.

Wild did the weekly food shop for his family, but he got quite bored with it.

Simply parking in the same spot, or somewhere random every time, wasn’t cutting it for him.

So he decided to park in every spot possible.

Wild looked at an aerial view of the car park.

He then mapped out a plan of all the bays and segmented them.

He assigned each one a number, with the spots located in sections from A to E.

With that plan in place, it was time for Wild to undertake his challenge.

How Gareth pulled off his amazing challenge

In terms of how he did it, this was much simpler than mapping out the challenge.

Wild wanted to make sure he changed his parking spot each time he did the weekly shop.

He didn’t simply go there every day to park.

Each time he parked in a spot, he noted it down on his phone and ticked off that he had parked there.

Wild also noted down the day and time that he went to the car park.

Such was the depth of his endeavours that Wild even ranked the spots and came up with some favorite locations.

One spot, he said, was a ‘god-tier’ spot.

This was one of the first spots he saw when he entered the car park.

“You can just roll wild into it,” Wild said to the BBC.

In total, he managed to park in 108 spots across two years.

That is certainly one way to make the weekly shopping trip to the supermarket a bit more interesting.
