One Manhattan parking attendant is now a hero, after dropping a gate onto a Range Rover mid-heist to stop luxury car thieves getting away with some priceless possessions.

This incident happened on April 5th, after four or five suspects slipped into a parking garage located on West 43rd Street near 11th Avenue.

The thieves could have gotten away with several expensive cars, including a McLaren Artura supercar, but this parking attendant had other ideas.

His incredible actions kept the cars at the garage until the NYPD arrived, and prevented owners from losing some very valuable possessions.

This is how the Manhattan parking attendant stopped the luxury car thieves

Freedom News TV first reported on the heist, with the NYPD also releasing a statement later on.

NBC New York also covered the incident.

The attempted theft took place in the early morning of Sunday, April 5th, 2026, at a Hell’s Kitchen parking garage.

After slipping into the lot, the thieves targeted several cars.

These included a McLaren Artura, Mercedes-AMG G63, a white Land Rover Range Rover Sport, and, oddly, a Volvo XC60.

NYPD officers responded to a reported grand larceny auto incident at roughly 5:48 am.

But as they attempted to drive the cars out, parking attendant George Frimpong Jr stepped in.

“I just had to think fast and do whatever I could to stop them,” he told Fox News.

He slammed the front security gate to the garage down.

It landed straight on top of the roof of the Range Rover.

All the drivers behind it were stuck, with the exception of the McLaren Artura driver, who initially got away.

However, that didn’t last long.

This is how badly it ended for the McLaren.

“The parking attendant was able to close the garage door.

“Individuals then used one of the stolen vehicles to ram through the door and exit the garage,” said the NYPD statement.

After smashing the McLaren through the door, the driver lost control of the car.

The Artura then ran into a pole at West 42nd Street and 11th Avenue.

Clearly, whoever was behind the wheel couldn’t handle the 671hp from the hybrid engine.

“The stolen vehicle later crashed a block away, and all three males fled in a gray BMW in an unknown direction,” said the NYPD.

Supercar Blondie has contacted the NYPD for further comment.

None of the targeted cars made it away from the garage.

One owner, Hassam, spoke to the New York Post about his Volvo, which they had tried to steal.

“My car was severely damaged. My car key was inside. The car key was inside the car,” he said.

Despite that, the quick thinking of one car Manhattan parking attendant ensured these thieves did not obtain their luxury car loot.
