Tech YouTuber MKBHD aka Marques Brownlee has sold his Tesla Cybertruck for a Rivian.
Brownlee said he was disappointed with the Cybertruck and was switching to the Rivian R1T.
This was controversial, not least because the Rivian is the Cybertruck’s direct competitor.
Even more controversially, he also broke the sales contract by selling his Cybertruck before the one-year moratorium ended.

MKBHD chose the Rivian over the Tesla Cybertruck
Marques Brownlee recently took to social media posting a photo of his Cybertruck with the caption ‘Sold’ alongside a victory sign.
Seeing this, one user asked him the reason for his decision.
He explained that he sold the truck because he “liked the Rivian better,” which might have angered a few Tesla fans.
It should be noted that the YouTuber has reviewed both EV cars, so he’s got a pretty good knowledge of both.
He even experimented by taking a Rivian R1T to a Tesla Supercharger.
So it is fair to say that he has plenty of experience driving both cars, which is not something everyone can say.
Even recently, he featured the R1T Gen 2 in a video titled ‘Our Favorite Cars of 2024.’
In the video, he revealed that he had been living with the car since the launch edition came out.
So it shouldn’t really come as a huge surprise that he decided to ditch the Cybertruck for the R1T.
Although the Tesla EV truck is more popular than the R1T, the latter still outperforms it in some aspects.
In a recent range test, the Rivian R1T outperformed the Tesla Cybertruck.
The Tesla EV ran out of battery faster than the Rivian, which maintained a buffer even when the battery was nearly depleted.
The Tesla EV truck also lost a tug-of-war contest against the R1T.
So, with this in mind, it’s understandable why Brownlee made the switch.
