We had our work cut out for us when we took on Max Verstappen and 99 other drivers in a race, even with Verstappen’s car starting way at the back.
It’s an opportunity that was too good to pass up.
Verstappen took on 100 amateur drivers – including Supercar Blondie’s very own Nik Hirschi – in a go-kart race at Silverstone.
With 35 laps and 75 minutes to pass everyone on the track, the four-time F1 world champion had a serious challenge on his hands – but so did Nik.
It’s not every day that you get to race against Max Verstappen
In the world of motorsports, Verstappen is one of the all-time greats.
As Gen Z might say, he’s the GOAT.
He’s a driver who knows how to command respect, whether that’s for his accomplishments on the track or his lifestyle off the track – from his jaw-dropping car collection to his ultra-pricey private jet.
So it only figures that 100 amateur drivers would jump at the chance to take him on in a race.
A smorgasbord of drivers had stepped up to the plate, including content creators, streamers, journalists, athletes, and internet personalities.
Supercar Blondie’s very own Nik Hirschi was among the 100 drivers vying for victory.
101 go-karts on the Silverstone track sounds like a recipe for chaos, and that’s exactly what unfolded.
But the more pressing question is this – how did Team Supercar Blondie do?
How did we get on in the race at Silverstone?
Almost from the word jump, things got hectic fast, as more than 30 cars crashed in a pile-up at the start.
One brief suspension later, and the show was back on the road, with Verstappen making good time and getting up to 37th by the end of the first lap.
“When I went to the grid and I saw where I had to start, with 100 karts in front of me, I was a little bit worried,” he said, GiveMeSport reported.
“After my first lap with all the carnage, I did think ‘OK, we have got this under control’. From there on, I could really have a lot of fun trying to hunt them all down.”
With 35 laps ahead of him, Verstappen had plenty of time to regain ground.
By the 10th lap, he was into fourth place.
Eventually, Verstappen managed to complete the challenge in 13 laps, taking just 35 minutes to do so.
Very impressive – we’d expect nothing less from the champion.
But how did Nik do?
He came in 87th, which is certainly not dead-last – but it wouldn’t be enough to get us onto a winner’s podium.
Nik said: “It was an amazing experience. I mean, when can you ever experience something like that. To race against a former four-time world champion.”
There’s always next time.
