This man bought a 2004 Mercedes-Benz Maybach 62 for such a bargain – at a whopping 90 percent discount.

Even though he was riding high on that win, the huge cost of repairing the limo suddenly took the wind out of his sails.

Even though the car is over 20 years old and has 100,000 miles on the odometer, the technology still works.

With help from a YouTube car repair channel, the pair tries to work out if this was a financial win or a huge fail.

The Maybach 62 had a 90 percent discount

Kansas-based YouTuber Tyler Hoover is known to his subscribers as the man who makes poor financial decisions so they don’t have to.

But he’s perhaps better known under the channel name, Hoovies Garage.

Along with friend and fellow YouTuber, the Car Wizard, the two set off to pick up a Maybach 62.

Hoover won the car at auction, having bid just over $40,000 for it, instead of the original $500,000 price tag.

He was riding high on having gotten a luxury limo with 550HP, an awesome electro-chromatic roof, and massage features, at a 90 percent discount.

However, on further investigation, it looked as though the money he’d saved would immediately be spent repairing it.

The true cost of the luxury limo

The Car Wizard immediately identify problems that needed fixing urgently.

They included replacing the alternator for $7,000 alone, as well as the special Maybach air shocks that are $4,000 each.

Even the tune-up racks up a bill of $5,000.

While the Maybach is the height of luxury, it has very specific parts that are far more expensive than Mercedes S-Class equivalents.

The roof alone costs $50,000 to replace.

After a diagnostic scan, it was revealed that there were serious issues which would be incredibly expensive to fix using Maybach parts.

For instance, there was a critical vehicle level error on the front axle, possibly from hard cornering.

Tyler also explained that the luxury limo used to be collateral for an $18.6 million loan to the previous owner.

Which proves how incredibly luxurious the life the Maybach had before it entered their shop really was.
