Mazda has officially unveiled a new electric SUV.

It’s called the Mazda CX-6e, and it’s positioned as a core model in Mazda’s next phase of electrification.

Mid-sized, rear-wheel drive, and designed primarily for Europe, it sits neatly between everyday usability and something a little more design-led.

But the spec sheet isn’t the reason people stopped at the Mazda stand in Brussels.

The one detail everyone noticed on Mazda’s new electric SUV

On paper, the CX-6e ticks the expected EV boxes

A 78kWh LFP battery feeds a rear-mounted motor producing 258PS and 290Nm, good for a 0-62mph run in 7.9 seconds and a WLTP range of up to 300 miles.

DC fast charging peaks at 195kW, delivering a 10-80 percent top-up in about 24 minutes.

Then the light hit it.

Mazda’s hero color is Nightfall Violet, and it doesn’t behave like a normal paint finish.

In shade, it looks almost black.

Drive into direct sun and it changes – suddenly glossy purple, rich and deep, shifting tone as you move around the car.

In a sea of grayscale electric SUVs, that alone stops it from disappearing into the background.

Inside, Mazda keeps things calm rather than cluttered.

A 26-inch panoramic display stretches across the dash, backed by a head-up display, gesture controls, multilingual voice commands, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

The layout leans on the Japanese concept of Ma – space, restraint, and balance.

What the CX-6e means for the future of Mazda

The CX-6e joins the Mazda6e as part of a broader reset of Mazda’s electric strategy.

Range and charging are now table stakes.

Design and identity are where Mazda thinks it can still stand apart.

That philosophy showed up again in Brussels with the updated CX-5 and its new Navy Blue paint.

Different powertrains, same thinking.

The CX-6e arrives in Europe this summer, with the UK following in late 2026.

Pricing is still under wraps, but Mazda’s direction isn’t – its electric cars are meant to be seen, not stashed in the garage.
