This McLaren 765 owner told a Tesla Model S Plaid driver that he could ‘smoke him,’ so they did a drag race to find out.
A healthy bit of rivalry between car owners is nothing new.
And what better way to resolve that than by heading out to a racetrack?
In this case, the McLaren 765 owner seemed confident he’d be the runaway winner, but would that be the case?

What happened when this McLaren 765 owner challenged a Tesla Model S Plaid to a race
To say that this McLaren 765 owner sounded confident would be an epic understatement.
“I’ll smoke Brooks in that 765,” he declared.
It didn’t quite pan out that way on the track, where Tesla had a decisive victory.

However, as is common with drag races, they raced several times to get a clearer picture.
While the McLaren had a few wins up its sleeve, the Tesla won more consistently.
Regardless of that, there was mutual respect at the end of the day.
You think that such a triumph would win over all the viewers.
Well, opinion was still divided on the matter of Tesla versus McLaren.
“Getting pumped about the Tesla winning is like getting jacked about my microwave oven cooking faster than my charcoal grill,” one commenter remarked.

That’s the first time we’ve seen somebody liken cars to kitchen appliances.
In fact, there were a lot of kitchen analogies to go around in the comments section.
One person sought to be the voice of moderation when they said:
“This division between ev and combustion is so stupid, they both have very clear pros and cons.”
It’s times like these that an Abraham Lincoln quote comes to mind.
“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”

Admittedly, he never lived to see a Tesla and a McLaren drag race, so who knows what he’d have thought.
Drag races can often take us by surprise
Suffice to say, we’ve seen our fair share of drag races over the years.
For some reason, people seem especially keen to put a Tesla into the mix.
Whether it’s up against a Chevy Corvette Z51, a Dodge Charger Daytona, or a BYD Sealion 7, it seems that everyone wants to push the American EV brand to its limit.
Maybe it’s because it’s seen as the new kid on the block, or people want to knock Tesla down a peg or two, we can’t say for certain.
