A US mechanic has explained the real reason a fellow mechanic gave a $20,000 quote for a $4,000 Jaguar repair job
The owner took the Jaguar F-Type to a mechanic shop, where she was given an eye-watering $20,000 quote to get the repair work done.
Understandably, she decided to go to another mechanic for a second opinion.
He told her he could do the job for $4,000 and explained the real reason behind the initial sky-high quote.

Why did the mechanic quote $20k for the $4k Jaguar repair job?
When something goes wrong with your car, you may be tempted to jump straight in with the first mechanic you see just to get the job done.
However, mechanic Mr Wizard, or @dzugus1221as he’s known on TikTok, has shown the importance of shopping around.
He’s also revealed the true meaning behind a $20,000 quote for a Jaguar repair.

In a clip uploaded to TikTok, he explained that the owner of a Jaguar F-Type had come to him for a second opinion after receiving the original super-high quote.
He was able to quickly diagnose the problem, explaining that the high-pressure fuel pumps that feed the engine had failed.
This meant that when the engine was running, it wasn’t able to atomize the fuel and, as a result, thick black smoke would pour out when the engine was running.
Although a relatively common issue, Mr Wizard said it wasn’t a quick job to fix and wasn’t cheap.
He said it would cost around $4,000, which, although still pretty high, is a lot less than the $20,000 originally quoted.
As for the reason behind the initial $20,000 quote? Well, Mr Wizard reckons it was simply to get rid of the Jaguar owner because they didn’t fancy carrying out the job.
“That was the ‘Get the car out of my shop. I don’t want to talk to you anymore. I don’t want to look at your car anymore’ price,” he explained.
“That’s what the $20,000 was.”
