The Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing, often described as a dream car, has long stood as one of the most important models in Mercedes-Benz history.
Built in the 1950s, it combined race-inspired engineering with distinctive styling.
Top-condition examples have reached values of $10 million at auction, placing it among the most valuable classics in the world.
Now, another Gullwing has surfaced, adding a new chapter to the story of this remarkable car.

The Gullwing that got away
The purchase was documented in a video by Hoovie’s Garage on YouTube, showing the moment Tyler took delivery of the Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing,.
The car was produced between 1954 and 1957, with around 1,400 units built.
Its upward-opening doors came directly from the demands of its tubular frame design.
At launch, it was the fastest production car in the world, reaching 150MPH.

Nearly seven decades later, the Mercedes 300 SL is still one of the most desirable classics and remains a dream car for many enthusiasts.
Tyler first saw a Mercedes Gullwing at an auction when he was 17.
That example sold for $300,000, which at the time felt impossible to match.
In the years since, prices climbed into the millions, pushing the dream car further away.

Recently, Matt from The Cultivated Collector located a Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing that fit his budget.
The car had been in one family’s ownership for more than 40 years and had not been driven in over a decade.
It showed its age but retained originality and matching numbers.
After the purchase, the Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing was sent to the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in California.
The workshop, which focuses on historic Mercedes models, will oversee the work needed to bring the dream car back into use.
Why the dream car still matters
The Gullwing continues to hold a strong position in the collector market.
Its limited production run, links to motorsport, and distinctive design keep it in demand.
Even cars requiring mechanical work continue to attract buyers.
Well-preserved Mercedes 300 SL examples still change hands for several million dollars, keeping the Gullwing at the top of the market.

For Tyler, the Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing will now enter a new stage.
The car requires recommissioning, as years of storage have taken their toll on paint and mechanical systems.
Once complete, it will be ready to drive again while preserving the details that make it valuable.
After decades of waiting, the dream car that once seemed unattainable is now part of his garage.
