Mercedes made a new G-Wagen inspired by the 1980s.

It looks like it was designed in the 1980s, which is the whole point, but it’s actually a brand-new design.

It’s available with a diesel or a gas engine, and with some pretty cool color combos.

Like every G-Wagen in the world, it isn’t cheap.

This G-Wagen is a throwback to the 1980s

The G-Wagen was unveiled in 1979 and it has remained virtually unchanged since.

You still get the same unmistakable boxy shape, the same loud ‘thump’ when you shut the door and the same analog feeling.

But that’s what people want, and that’s why this car is a best-seller.

This new G-Wagen was inspired by the classic W460-series Geländewagen, and it’s worked hard to maximize that nostalgic effect.

Under the hood, you can go for a straight-six diesel unit with 362bhp, or you can opt for the more powerful gas alternative, also a 3.0-liter straight-six unit, but this one makes 440bhp.

For the bodywork, you have two options, Agave Green Solid or Colorado Beige Solid (which looks more white than beige, to be honest), and in both cases you get Night Black Magno accents, like the front grille for example, and 1980s-style orange indicators.

The cabin feels a little less 1980s-esque, considering you still get massive integrated screens for the dashboard and the infotainment.

Although the black leather and dove gray fabric upholstery looks terrific.

You also get a few Easter Eggs in plain sight.

There’s the ‘1 of 460’ lettering on the center console, the ‘Stronger than the 1980s’ print on the handle on the passenger side and then a badge that reads ‘Schöckl Proved’, a reference to the Schöckl mountain where Mercedes used to test the G-Class in the olden days.

Production is capped at 460 units, and the price is in line with what we expect from the G-Wagen, starting at around $200,000.

Why the G-Class is so important for Mercedes

The G-Wagen, or G-Class, has been around for over 40 years, since 1979, and some people, including Mercedes CEO Ola Källenius, think it might be the most important Mercedes vehicle ever made.

Källenius was once quoted stating that the ‘last Mercedes to be built will be a G-Class’ which is a pretty dramatic statement.

Despite being a heavy, gas-guzzling, six-figure vehicle, the G-Wagen sells like hotcakes and has been selling like that for decades.

It’s one of those vehicles that no one needs, but everyone wants.

There’s even a Popemobile version of it, and soon there’ll be a new smaller version dubbed by the internet as the Baby G.

As long as people want it, Mercedes will continue producing new versions of the G-Wagen.

And we can’t see people getting tired of it anytime soon.
