After thinking he’d bought a Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ for the bargain of the century, this Merc superfan was soon licking his wounds and wishing for an end to the EV era.

Mercedes has enjoyed life in the EV era so far, launching 11 models that are currently in rotation.

But the premium upmarket niche it operates in means very few people can get one as a daily driver.

Looking second-hand, Mercedes-Benz enthusiast Hoovies Garage managed to find a real bargain. But there was a reason for its price slash.

Mercedes-Benz EQS EV proves a bargain that’s too good to be true

As one of the flagship EV models in Merc’s new electric takeover, the Mercedes-Benz EQS has already proven to be an industry stalwart, thanks to its 750-mile solid-state battery charge.

The human touch ensured throughout the fleet has been given the seal of approval from Merc’s hierarchy, too, as the $100k range impresses across the market.

However, YouTuber Hoovies Garage thought he’d struck gold with the cheapest EQS EV on the market. He landed one for the princely sum of just $35k.

Originally, he thought the car was so cheap because of depreciation and a coolant issue, noting that there were no leaks but a few alerts on the dashboard.

It soon proved to be too good to be true, though.

After sending it to a dealership for a diagnostic, Hoovies Garage was hit with a repair list longer than his arm.

An entirely new control unit was needed alongside work on the coolants and battery. The Mercedes garage had to take the car for a number of weeks.

Coming to $6k in total, the bill would have been enough to put a dent in this bargain deal.

Luckily, it was still under warranty, and he didn’t pay a dime.

All the gears, no ideas

Despite the Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ EV now being up and running, he was left yearning for a manual combustion engine and something more in tune with the old S-Class models.

“If I’m driving an S-Class Mercedes, I don’t want an electric one. I want a V8 gasoline-guzzling one,” he continued.

“I could go back and get like a 2014–15 S63 for the same money or a little bit less and probably be much happier.

“I’m an old-school dinosaur and that’s what I like.”

Hoovies Garage doesn’t have the best relationship with German cars, though, having previously expressed dismay at two BMW purchases.

Instead, he prefers the taste of French oil. The real creme-del-la-creme.
