Mercedes has begun testing the new G-Class Cabriolet, as prototypes undergo road and winter evaluations.

Every family grows at some point, right?

Well, the G-Class family is no different, and a new relative is on the way, having completed its first test kilometers in Austria.

These tests will help engineers ensure the open-top model continues the high quality of the G-Class driving experience.

When can we expect to see the Mercedes G-Class Cabriolet?

At some point, the G-Class Cabriolet will make its way over to Sweden to be put through its paces in some winter testing.

It might not be as challenging as this Scandinavian driving test that went viral, but it’ll be trying nonetheless.

‘Facing icy temperatures and snowy landscapes, the newcomer’s robustness, driving dynamics, and reliability will be thoroughly proven,’ Mercedes-Benz said in a statement.

At any rate, each and every Cabriolet will ensure that drivers ‘feel right at home behind the wheel’.

This follows on from a teaser released earlier this year in which a silhouette of the truck was shown.

Now, a prototype has been revealed.

Sharing the images on social media, Mercedes-Benz teased:

“An icon rises from the shadows and returns to the streets. Ready for its legendary comeback?”

In a lot of ways, it bears a striking resemblance to the standard G-Wagon.

We anxiously await further information on this vehicle, which is anticipated to hit markets sometime in 2026.

What other new cars can we expect to see in 2026?

A new year is just weeks away now, and that can only mean one thing – more new cars are coming our way.

Well, it means a multitude of things, really, but for our purposes, we’ll take a look at which new cars are coming out in the new year.

There’s the Land Rover Defender D7X-R, which is debuting at the 2026 Dakar Rally, where it’ll take on 3,000 miles.

How about Honda’s Prelude revival that will be hybrid-powered, come with Type R parts, and have a wild new S+ ‘fake’ shift mode.

And last but by no means least, there’s the Nissan Leaf, which has already exceeded 300 miles in a real-world range test.

There’s exciting things coming in 2026.
