Mechanic takes apart car after customer complains of terrible smell and people are saying 'throw the whole car away' after he discovers why

This car owner was a little worried when their car started to ‘smell like death’ for seemingly no reason.

A mechanic got to the bottom of the odor, and they shared a video revealing the bizarre cause.

The issue is also more dangerous than people realize.

Which probably explains why the advice from people in the comments was: ‘just throw it away’.

Why the car smelled horrible

TikToker @sunsetf87c went viral after posting a clip of a car that – this is a direct quote – ‘smelled like death’.

A bit strong, but presumably fairly accurate.

The problem was that, in their case, the foul smell didn’t clear despite using air fresheners and washing the car a thousand times.

After spending a significant amount of time essentially dead-ended – with no solution in sight – feeding a small wire-mounted inspection camera into the ductwork revealed a grim sight.

There was a dead mouse in the car.

This is relatively uncommon, but not unheard of.

While mice generally end up in abandoned cars, they can also take shelter in vehicles that are driven daily.

And locking the doors won’t help: mice can easily squeeze through gaps around pedal shafts, steering columns, and intake vents.

Here’s why this is more hazardous than people think

No one wants to become an Uber for a mouse, but the problem goes far beyond a bad smell or a fear of rodents.

Mice tend to chew on everything – including electrical wiring – which can cause serious damage.

What can you do about it?

Keeping the cabin entirely free of food waste and making sure windows and sunroofs stay tightly sealed is a good start.

But at the end of the day, it also comes down to luck: while mice prefer abandoned cars for shelter, they can still target new or daily-driven vehicles.

But, clearly, you never know.

Obviously, mice suffer from bad PR – much like pigeons – which explains the reaction in the viral comments.

“Imagine that breeze from the mouse blowing in your face every day,” one commenter wrote.

“Throw the whole car in the bin,” another TikToker wrote.

This being a BMW M2 Competition, we bet the owner won’t.
