The Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model Y are two very different EVs that represent opposite ends of the electric performance and practicality spectrum.
So when YouTuber Simon Minter, better known as Miniminter, revealed he had sold his beloved Porsche Taycan, fans were curious why.
It was not because he disliked the car; in fact, it was the complete opposite.
He actually realized that he cared about it too much, making it less useful in his everyday life compared with his trusty Tesla Model Y.

The Porsche Taycan was too awesome for its own good
Miniminter explained his rationale in a YouTube video.

According to him, while he absolutely enjoyed the Taycan and appreciated its capabilities, he rarely used it.
And when he did, he found himself overly cautious.
He said he cared so much about the Porsche that he avoided driving it on country lanes or in situations where it might get scratched or dinged.

The Porsche Taycan is Porsche’s first fully electric sports sedan, known for its sharp handling, premium interior, and blistering acceleration.
Depending on the variant, the Taycan can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in as little as around 2.6 seconds in Turbo S trim, with dual electric motors and a two speed rear transmission that helps deliver both performance and efficiency.
Pricewise, new Taycans typically start around $90,000 or more, with high performance trims frequently exceeding $150,000 once options and tax are included.
This is serious money for a car, and it explains why Miniminter is hesitant to use it as his daily driver.

He uses his Tesla Model Y as a daily beater
Meanwhile, his Tesla Model Y became the go to EV for daily driving, motorway runs, and spontaneous country drives, mainly because he did not feel as protective of it.

The Tesla Model Y is Tesla’s compact all electric SUV that prioritizes practicality, range, and everyday usability.
It has an EPA estimated range of up to around 330 miles on a single charge, depending on battery and configuration.
The Model Y is also pretty speedy, with 0 to 60 mph times in the mid four second range for Performance models.

Prices vary by market, but in recent years, the Model Y has typically started in the $45,000 to $55,000 range before incentives, which is a much more accessible proposition for daily use.
For Miniminter, the choice came down to real world use versus emotional attachment.
The Taycan was a joy to drive, but sat unused too much for the cost and care it required.

His Model Y, by contrast, became the car he was comfortable living with, whether that meant motorway traffic or country roads.
So while selling a Porsche might sound surprising to car enthusiasts, for him it simply made practical sense, even if it meant parting with something he genuinely loved.
