Heavily-modified Dodge Viper met a Shelby GT500 at a red light and what happened next isn't for the faint-hearted

When this heavily-modified Dodge Viper met a Shelby GT500 at a red light, what followed was truly hair-raising.

It’s a tale as old as time – two performance car owners want to race each other.

Both of these cars have some immense power under their hoods, so it was really anyone’s to win.

When the light turned green, all bets were off – who would seize victory?

What happened between this Dodge Viper and Shelby GT500 that met at a red light?

This clip made its way online courtesy of  Woyshnis Media, and showed two cars side by side at a red light.

Whether this was an orchestrated thing or a spontaneous race isn’t explicitly stated – although the fact somebody is filming this indicates that the former scenario is more likely.

At any rate, what happened next was bound to be epic.

The Viper had been heavily modified, spitting out flames for extra effect.

You just knew it was going to be a showdown for the ages.

Both cars seemed equally matched, but one car took the lead.

Despite all the bells and whistles that came with the Viper, it was the Shelby that appeared to get the upper hand.

Taking a closer look at the Dodge Viper

The Dodge Viper has established itself as one of the most iconic muscle cars in the world.

First released back in 1992, the Viper has gone through several generations in the decades since.

The first generation packed an 8.0-liter V10 engine, capable of 400bhp and a top speed of 165mph.

This was upgraded to 8.3-liter V10 with 500bhp in 2003.

Top speeds vary from 160mph to 200mph, depending on the year and variant.

How does the Shelby GT500 compare on paper?

The Shelby GT500 is certainly no slouch either.

Described as the ‘ultimate pony car’, the GT500 has shown its fire previously, taking on the Tesla Model S in a drag race.

The supercharged V8 at the heart of this beast pumps out 760hp and can reach 60mph in 3.3 seconds.

On paper, there’s not much in between these two titans of the road.
