If you’re always on the road, you’ll often be looking for the most reliable vehicles that can cruise up and down highways without causing a hassle.

But what are the most reliable vehicles?

Well, one study has now highlighted 12 cars and vans as kings of the long haul, capable of doing over 100,000 miles without breaking a sweat.

And there are some surprising names on there.

Volvo XC90, Tesla Model S, BMW 3 Series, and Toyota Prius named as some of the most reliable vehicles

Cars hitting 100,000 miles can be quite a rarity, but some mechanics actually encourage people to take a look at these experienced tarmac shredders and not overlook them as fossils.

If a Ferrari can hit 100,000 miles and still rip down the Autobahn in Germany without losing any speed, there has to be an abundance of affordable cars that can do the same, and are worth the long-term investment.

Thanks to Dagens, we now have a list of 12 expert-recommended cars that will seldom let you down over the six-figure mile mark.

Some of the most notable cars on the list are the BMW 3 Series, Volvo XC90, and Tesla Model S, all of which vary in style.

The diesel engine BMW is the more reliable of the models in the 3 Series, offering better fuel consumption – but it’s a moral grey area in a world where the Tesla Model S is saving emissions on equal runs.

The Volvo XC90 is one of the SUVs in the middle ground, which is great for long touring journeys throughout Europe and America.

The most reliable vehicles list is rounded off with entries from the Volkswagen Touareg and Passat, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Avensis, and Prius, the Lexus GS 450h.

And a triple crown for Mercedes-Benz with the V-Class, E-Class, and A-Class.

Previously, cars from Toyota and Hyundai were praised by mechanics for their reliability, which adds further food for thought.

But how do they fare on fuel costs?

Reliability might all be well and good, but if you’re hitting 100,000 miles, you’ll also want to know which of these most reliable vehicles will cost the least to run.

Well, thanks to ChatGPT, using a median cost for gas and charging prices, the Tesla Model S came out on top, costing around $8,000 in energy per 100,000 miles.

Closely behind is the Toyota Prius and Lexus GS 450h.

On the other, more expensive hand, is the Mercedes V-Class, whose weight and aerodynamics make it notoriously a gas guzzler, and could be up to three times more costly to run.
