Richard Petty is an era-defining champion and widely considered to be the paramount face on the Mount Rushmore of NASCAR royalty, but what ‘The King’ had hidden in his North Carolina garage was his true crown.

With 200 NASCAR wins under his belt, now 87-year-old Petty is more than accustomed to being behind the wheel of fast cars.

But in a look behind his garage doors, the American icon had exactly what you could imagine such a racing legend to have stored away, and more.

In a collection of true American royalty, Richard Petty has a collection of NASCAR brilliance, hot-rod engineering supremacy, precious Pixar perfection, and some very weird dolls.

Arguably the greatest NASCAR driver of all time, Richard Petty still holds a number of records that have failed to be beaten despite being out of the game for decades.

The American racing celebrity hasn’t done too badly off the track either, and his car garage is an accurate depiction of his personality.

Highlighted by MyClassicCarTV on YouTube, Petty showcased his cars on full display, opening the doors to his North Carolina barn and his mind.

While you might expect rows of NASCAR stock cars, it’s actually a hot rod and a Dodge Challenger that headline the collection.

The Dodge, named Petty Challengers, is a stock-bodied, supercharged, and upgraded beast with his garage tuning the suspension, brakes, and engine.

Coated in a pristine matte black paint, the Challenger is clearly his pride and joy.

As for the hot rod, well, this is a blend of weird and wonderful, as the engine is a masterclass, while the body is more akin to something from Wacky Races with Dastardly and Muttley.

Along the line of his collection are a range of classic muscle cars, including a Buick Roadmaster, a rare 1986 Pontiac fastback demo car, a Plymouth Superbird, a 426 Hemi Hudson Hornet, and a range of other custom drag cars.

Then, there’s ‘The King’ range. Petty personified in a Pixar car forever.

Having voiced and been the namesake for the legend that is Strip ‘The King’ Weathers in the Cars franchise, Petty even owns a range of cars painted in his bright blue racing outfit and ’43’ decals.

However, the actual Plymouth Superbird that Weathers is designed after is no longer in Petty’s North Carolina garage, having since landed in the possession of Todd Werner.

The car that he drove in real NASCAR events was once lost in time and has now been restored, but just not in the Petty museum alongside his other former race cars.

It’s not the first Cars NASCAR to be found either, as this Lightning McQueen was bought for a steal price.

As far as celebrity collections go, Petty looks to be earning his way into the hearts of every American gearhead, up there with the likes of Guy Fieri.
