A man who has challenged himself with turning $0.01 into a supercar has just managed to get his hands on a $25,000 BMW for $10,000.

New Jersey-based YouTuber JD Montclair has a bold and ambitious dream: trade his way up from a penny to a sleek supercar.

While that dream may sound somewhat unrealistic, the content creator is determined, and he’s making good progress.

In his most recent deal, he managed to get his hands on a rare BMW Z3 for a very good price – but it did come with a bit of a catch.

Going from a penny to a supercar, one trade at a time

His path from penny to supercar has been an interesting one.

He used his original penny to get a soap dispenser, which he used to make a series of trades, including a bottle of men’s cologne, a pair of Beats headphones, a retro gaming console, and even a brand new pair of Birkenstocks.

JD’s trades eventually landed him with a  Ford Focus, which he detailed and flipped for a Toyota Yaris.

He was then able to trade the Yaris for a 1984 C4 Corvette, which he sold for $5,500.

And this brings us neatly on to JD’s next buy – a BWM Z3.

But there was a bit of a catch.

Having sold the Corvette for $5,500, he didn’t have enough cash to buy it outright, but he had a plan.

As he had spent a fair amount of time at his local dealership, Advantage Motos, he had become good pals with the owner, Frank.

So, he and Frank agreed to put $5,000 in each to buy the BMW, and then both rebuild it and flip.

Buying the BMW was a big gamble, but one that could pay off.

“If we flip this right, it’s the biggest jump the series has ever seen,” he said.

“But if we fail, that’s everything we have. There is no safety net, no plan B. It’s all or nothing.”

The BMW Z3 came with a low price, but for good reason

As its price might have suggested, the BMW Z3 was in need of some TLC.

Taking a closer look after he made the purchase, JD noted that it had numerous dents and dings, an oxidized trim, a broken lock on the driver’s door, and issues with the airbags.

If all that wasn’t enough, the check engine light flashed on, and the car needed to be repainted.

However, JD was completely undaunted by the task ahead of him and wasted no time in getting stuck in.
