This low-mileage 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 10th Anniversary Edition is being sold after more than 40 years.

Pontiac launched the Firebird in 1967 and introduced its Trans Am package in 1969.

A decade on – to mark the occasion – the 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 10th Anniversary Edition was released.

The car, which was nicknamed the TATA, came with an interesting two-tone color scheme made up of Silver and Charcoal and had a complementary grey leather interior with red piping.

The special edition car was kitted out with both the Special Performance and Limited Edition packages and came with a 6.6-liter V8 engine that produced 220 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque.

Pontiac produced just 7,500 of the 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 10th Anniversary Editions, so getting your hands on one today is pretty rare.

But a low-mileage one has recently been listed for sale in New Mexico.

The seller is listing the vintage vehicle on behalf of his mom, who he says bought it in 1984 when it had just 3,820 miles (6,147km) on the clock and has driven it fewer than 1,000 miles (1,609km) since.

The odometer currently shows 4,745 original miles (7,635km) – impressive for a car of this age.

The Pontiac comes with removable roof panels, a very cool Super Bird hood decal, AM/FM radio, and a limited-slip differential.

It also has air conditioning, although that’s currently not working.

The car is all original but does have some issues and faults that would need to be addressed.

Alongside the broken AC and the usual chips and scratches you’d expect on a 46-year-old car, it has a loose headliner behind the passenger-side T-top trim, some rusting on the suspension components, and the power-operated antenna doesn’t work.

It also has a leaky heater core and is in need of a service.

On the plus side, most of its bodywork is in solid condition, and the interiors are immaculate, meaning it could make a very cool little fixer-upper for the right person.

The sale also includes the original owner’s manual, a window sticker, and two keys.
