A new study has revealed the safest cars under $22k, with Toyota taking one of the top spots.
The study, done by Dolman Law, took a look at affordable car models to identify which were the safest and most reliable.
The cars were compared on how often the models are involved in fatal crashes and their crash test ratings.
Any car that scored a higher figure was deemed to be safer.

Toyota came near the top of this ranking of safest cars under $22k
You might think that you’re cutting corners when you buy a cheaper car.
But that’s something you really don’t want to do, especially when it comes to your safety.

Fortunately, Dolman Law has compiled a list of affordable car models that are both safe and reliable.
The research looked at two vehicle safety indicators to rank each car: how often they’re involved in fatal crashes, which made up 60 percent of the score, and their crash test ratings, which accounted for 40 percent of the score.
To make fair comparisons, crash rates were calculated based on how many cars were sold, so popular models weren’t unfairly penalized.
Each car got a final score from 0 to 100, with higher numbers meaning better safety and reliability.
So which cars came out on top in a ranking of safest under $22k?
Toyota had a good showing, with three of its models cracking the top 10 – the Highlander, the Corolla, and the 4Runner.

However, the top spot went to the Lexus NX, which had a near-perfect score of 99 out of 100.
Other high flyers included the Acura RDX, Lexus RX, and Hyundai Kona.

Of the top 10 cars, the Honda Fit was deemed to be the best value at the relatively cheap price of $18,000.

What studies have taught us about cars in recent years
It seems like new studies are constantly coming out, which shed some light on a new aspect of cars.
One study revealed the alarming change in SUVs’ visibility since the 1990s.
Another study found that front-facing green brake lights on cars were a massive benefit to everyone.
Then there was the study that discovered affordable used cars were disappearing at an alarming rate.
While another revealed the best and worst US states to be a driver in.
And that’s not even counting the endless studies about EVs.
