The Tesla app has added new tools, and it now does far more than most owners realize.

The app now controls everything from unlocking the car to managing charging, climate, and security.

In a YouTube breakdown, Everyday Chris walks through how much of the ownership experience actually lives inside the app.

So here are the Tesla app features he highlights that most drivers don’t fully use.

1. Your phone replaces the key completely

Your phone isn’t just a backup key – it is the key.

With Bluetooth proximity, the car locks and unlocks automatically as you walk up or away.

And if you add the widget, you can pop the frunk, trunk, or locks instantly without even opening the app.

2. The home screen shows live car data

Once inside the app, it’s not static.

You can see if the car is driving, parked, or asleep, along with battery percentage, speed, music, and navigation.

It even shows airflow and door status in real time, which makes it feel closer to a live dashboard than a remote.

3. It no longer drains your battery just by opening

Tesla fixed one of the more annoying issues.

Before, opening the app would wake the car and use energy.

Now it shows the last known state unless you refresh, which helps preserve battery without losing access.

4. Quick controls are fully customizable

On the Tesla app home screen, you start with four quick commands – lock or unlock, climate, trunk, and charge port.

But hold them down, and a full menu appears.

You can swap in things like Sentry Mode, defrost, summon, or even the light show.

There’s even a hidden trick to add a fifth shortcut if you drag it just right.

5. Climate control works before you even get in

You can heat or cool the car remotely, including heated seats and steering wheel.

Defrost mode cranks everything to clear ice fast.

And features like Dog Mode or Camp Mode can be turned on straight from your phone.

6. Location tracking is seriously precise

The app shows exactly where your car is, down to its position in a parking lot.

There’s even a directional arrow that guides you toward it without opening maps.

And you can send destinations from your phone straight to the car’s navigation.

7. Charging is smarter than you think

You can set charge limits, schedules, and even plan routes with charging stops built in.

It shows charger availability, speed, and nearby amenities like coffee or Wi-Fi.

There’s also a low power mode to preserve battery if you’re leaving the car parked long-term.

8. Sentry Mode turns your car into a security system

You can view live camera feeds directly from your phone.

And if something looks off, you can honk, flash lights, or even speak through the car’s external speaker.

It’s part security camera, part intercom, and a little bit chaotic.

9. Service, diagnostics, and upgrades all live in one place

Need new tires or a repair?

You can request service directly in the app.

It shows battery health, maintenance items, and even lets you order parts.

You can also view dashcam clips and download them straight to your phone.

10. It keeps getting updated like software, not a car

And that’s the bigger point.

The Tesla app isn’t finished – it keeps evolving with new features and tweaks.

So the longer you own the car, the more it changes how you use it.
