A man drove his 2008 Toyota Tacoma 1.6 million miles before it was returned to the dealership it came from and put on display in the showroom.

Mike Neal bought the Tacoma new in November 2007.

Over the years, he clocked up some serious miles – we’re talking 1,625,000 miles in total.

Sadly, Mike passed away in 2023, but his wife knew exactly what to do with his old truck.

How did Mike put 1.6 million miles on the Toyota Tacoma?

When it comes to reliability, few carmakers have as solid a reputation as Toyota

Just take a look at this 1993 Toyota Corolla that has done 1,242,742 miles and will ‘run forever’ according to its owner, or this 1999 Camry that has clocked up 500,000 miles

But Mike Neal’s 2008 Toyota Tacoma might just be the highest-mileage yet.

Mike bought the truck from Toyota dealer Jeff, who runs the Toyota Jeff Reviews YouTube channel.

He chose the car because he knew he would be doing some serious mileage and needed a reliable vehicle.

Mike worked delivering vital medications to those who needed them, so he needed a vehicle he could trust.

After doing some research he landed on the 2008 Toyota Tacoma and never looked back.

Over the years, Mike appeared on Jeff’s YouTube channel several times after hitting major milestones, like 725,000, and one million.

“I don’t know why anyone would buy any vehicle other than a Toyota Tacoma,” Mike said during one appearance.

Sadly, Mike passed away in 2023, but just before he passed, he told his wife that after his death she should contact Jeff about his old truck as ‘he would know what to do with it’.

When the time came, Jeff was a little overwhelmed about the best plan for the truck, but Mike’s wife had a suggestion: bring it into the dealership and put it on display.

And that’s what happened.

“It has a great home, I can’t think of a better ending to a story,” Jeff said.

“We get to show it off to the world right here in Raleigh North Carolina.”

Toyotas have some serious reliability

While not quite on par with Mike’s achievement just yet, in New Zealand the owner of 1993 Toyota Corolla has passed the million mile mark

Graeme Hebley works as a delivery driver and bought the Corolla in 2000 when it had around 50,000 miles on the odometer.

Since then he’s driven around 3,000 miles a week for work and there’s now a staggering 1,242,742 miles on the clock.
