A Dodge Charger or a Saab 9-3 as a first car is a choice most teenagers never get to enjoy, but one Oklahoma teen did.

His father opened up a lot of more than 20 vehicles, ranging from older Cadillacs to modern performance cars.

The teenager test drove a Mustang, a BMW 650, and a Corvette before narrowing down the field.

In the end, space, condition, and power pointed to one car in particular.

The cars on offer

The decision was filmed by Auto Auction Rebuilds via YouTube, the same day the Oklahoma teen passed his drivers test.

The first car test began with the Saab 9-3 Aero, which had been the teenager’s earlier pick before he held a license.

Other cars on the lot included a Cadillac Coupe DeVille, Cadillac DTS, Corvette C4, and a Ford Mustang V6.

Some were in need of work.

The Corvette had inconsistent brakes and the Mustang’s air conditioning was unreliable.

The BMW 650 convertible produced strong acceleration but came with the risk of high repair bills.

The Saab 9-3 stood out for its rarity but was cramped for a tall athlete with football gear to carry.

The Dodge Charger presented the opposite: four doors, a large trunk, and nearly 400 horsepower from a Hemi V8.

Those features made it a leading candidate for a first car.

After driving each option, the teenager chose the Dodge Charger RT as his first car.

Why he chose the Dodge Charger

It provided the room needed for friends and equipment while still offering the performance of a V8 sedan.

The body showed clear coat fading and hail dents, but the car had been dealer-maintained and was fitted with new Michelin tires.

The red and black interior, along with a sunroof, gave it more appeal than the others too.

The Corvette was removed from consideration due to its brake system, and the Saab 9-3 was seen as less practical for daily use.

He said the Mustang was enjoyable but unreliable.

The Dodge Charger combined power with everyday usability, making it the most suitable choice for a first car.

Other cars on the property were looked over for various reasons.

A Plymouth Prowler, Cobra, and Dodge Ram SRT-10 were already headed for Barrett-Jackson auctions.

The Cadillac DTS was functional but unexciting, and the Corvette had too many faults.

The mix of cars reflected both collectibles and usable daily drivers.

The father had purchased the Dodge Charger months in advance, expecting it would be the right car once his son earned a license.

That assumption proved correct when the teenager picked it without knowing the background.

The Charger became his first car, offering the combination of size, performance, and condition.
