With only 80 models in existence, this is one of the rarest Mercedes models AMG has ever produced.
Built as a kind of celebration, it’s clear they were having fun when designing this one.
It’s a street-ready race car, with bold, aggressive styling, ready to sprint to 60mph in 3.9 seconds.
And with so few in existence, these are a modern-day collector’s classic.

Producing an instant classic
While the regular Mercedes-Benz CLK wasn’t particularly special, it did pave the way for several noteworthy performance variants.
One such variant is the Mercedes-Benz CLK AMG DTM, a road-legal convertible based on the DTM racing version of the CLK.
It was built in 2006 as a follow-up to the CLK DTM Coupé to celebrate and commemorate DTM racing.

The body work is almost cartoonish with its wide stance and muscular proportions.
It’s all carbon fiber, from the door panels to the bucket seats, which was unique for that era.
Under the hood is a super-charged 5.4-liter V8, pushing out around 582 horsepower and 800Nm of torque.
What it takes to buy a rare Mercedes

With only 80 convertibles ever made, the Mercedes-Benz CLK AMG DTM was offered exclusively to select customers.
Each was priced at $300,000, which is a lot now and was even more back in 2006.
At the time, it was the fastest four-seater convertible, making it an instant collector’s item.
It’s an iconic and rare Mercedes, like the AMG One.
Only 275 AMG Ones were ever made, one of which is currently up for auction at SBX Cars.
Then there’s the SLR 722 GT, which, with only 21 units produced, has a fetching price of over $1 million.
To catch a glimpse of one of these rare beasts in real life, you’ll have to head to a museum or wait for an invite to a collector’s temperature-controlled room.
