Japan is known around the world for quite a number of things.
Its culture, history, and tradition lead it to be very well respected.
But in many ways, the country is extremely beloved for another reason.
Because it’s the only country in the world where parking lots, like the one in Daikoku, outshine supercar showrooms.

Japan’s car industry booms after World War II
Most of you are probably aware of the ruinous state Japan was left in after World War II.
Following the conflict, its car industry mostly focused on rebuilding trucks and basic vehicles.
But the early 1960s saw the industry begin to rise in popularity around the world.
And by the 1970s, the Japanese car culture grew, owing to fuel efficiency and build quality.
Simultaneously, however, there was the growth of the underground culture.

The “Bosozoku” post-war movement emphasized the rebellious nature of customized vehicles.
This eventually evolved into subcultures such as “Kaido Racer” and “Kanjozoku”.
Ultimately, this all led to a phenomenon called the Japanese Domestic Market, or JDM.
JDM has become the envy of car fans worldwide, because it focuses exclusively on the domestic market.
Essentially, JDM has resulted in some incredible cars reserved exclusively for the Japanese car world.
Car parks in Japan outshine supercar showrooms
In Japan, cars are not just a means of transportation from A to B.
There is a much deeper connection between man and machine.
People in Japan pride themselves on crafting expression through their cars.
Whether it’s drifting or track racing, the cars very much reflect the passion of the person.
If, like us, you’ve always searched for the Holy Grail of car meets, it has now been found.

Daikoku parking area is located in Daikoku Futo, Yokohama, and it hosts the world’s best car meet.
It’s essentially like Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory but for grown-ups.
Legendary vehicles such as the Mazda RX-7 and the Nissan Skyline are the rule instead of the exception.
Old school, custom Toyotas and European offerings surround you everywhere you look.
If you’ll excuse us, we’re just looking up flights to Tokyo….
