Once upon a time, you can find a supercharged sports car everywhere on the street.
From Mustangs to Corvettes and Jaguars, the instant-hit whine of a blower defined an era of fast cars that didn’t need turbos to get the job done.
But times change, regulations tighten, and now turbos (and EVs) have taken over.
That leaves just one supercharged sports car standing in America: the Lotus Emira V6.

The only supercharged sports car left standing
Yes, really. If you want to buy a brand-new car with a supercharger bolted to its engine, the Lotus Emira is your only option in the US.
Lotus teamed up with Toyota for this setup, slotting in the familiar 3.5-liter V6 from the Camry’s more exotic relatives, then topping it with an Edelbrock supercharger.
The result is a sports car with 400 horsepower, a slick 6-speed manual, and a lot of analog fun.

The Emira itself is a bit of a farewell tour for Lotus’s combustion era.
It replaces the Evora, Exige, and Elise all at once, marking the brand’s last gas-powered car before it pivots entirely to EVs.
As such, the V6 version feels extra special.
The way the engine pulls, with a linear surge instead of the laggy swell of a turbo, pairs perfectly with Lotus’s famously sharp chassis.
It’s a car built for balance, feel, and connection, not record-setting horsepower numbers.
Why the Lotus Emira V6 is a unicorn
Nearly every other sports car has gone turbocharged: Porsche 911s, BMW M cars, even tiny hot hatches.
Supercharged sports cars, once beloved for their instant throttle response and unique whine, have all but faded into obscurity.
Dodge has ended production of its Hellcats, Jaguar has moved on from its blown V8s, and Corvette dropped the supercharger when it reinvented itself as a mid-engined exotic.
In that context, the Emira V6 is the last of its kind.

It carries the torch for a driving experience that’s rapidly disappearing, offering enthusiasts something pure and mechanical in an era of electrification and turbocharged efficiency.
Sure, it may not match the insane power of a Hellcat or a ZR1, but that’s not the point.
This car is about the feeling: the rush of a supercharged engine climbing toward redline while you row your own gears.
If you want the final taste of supercharged glory in a brand-new sports car, the 2026 Lotus Emira V6 SE is your last chance.
