After four were originally made, only 2.5 Bugatti Atlantic Type 57SC cars exist years later.

The Atlantic Type 57SC is one of the rarest and valuable Bugatti models ever produced.

In fact, after four were made, the car’s fate was doomed, with only a select number left on Earth.

And one of the missing models from the collection could even be worth a reported $100 million.

Just ‘2.5’ of these Bugatti Atlantic Type 57SC cars exist

Bugatti is known for making many impressive models thanks to its successful supercar fleet. But there is a slight tragedy lying low beneath one of the models’ hoods.

The Bugatti Atlantic 57SC was brought to life in the 1930s. It’s one of the rarest and most valuable models around, with just four ever made.

“Three of these extraordinary coupés are still in existence. They are regarded as the most valuable cars in the world. The automotive world has been searching for the fourth Atlantic for over 80 years,” stated Bugatti.

But, there are rumors that only 2.5 exist, with users online debating that fact.

One Reddit user speculated that the second 57SC was lost and number three had elements that were rebuilt ‘which means that you can count it as either “lost” or “rebuilt” depending on who to ask’.

The Bugatti Atlantic Type 57SC had a length of just 3.70 metres and was powered by a 3.35-litre straight engine, with the car being able to soar to a top speed of a whopping 200kmh, which was ahead of its time.

The models were developed from an ‘Aérolithe’ prototype, and the first one was built for a British banker, Victor Rothschild.

The third ‘Holzschuh Atlantic” was delivered to Frenchman Jacques Holzschuh, but that’s not all.

Thanks to its exclusivity, there are some famous owners that had access to the car, with Ralph Lauren being the proud owner of the last Atlantic ever produced with that Art Deco design, he even had it restored too.

The missing model still remains a mystery, though, with the second Atlantic ever built still being very much MIA. It can’t be traced after 1938.

“Its disappearance is one of the great mysteries in the history of the automobile. Experts estimate the value of the Atlantic at more than €100 million – if it ever appears again,” Bugatti revealed.

Bugatti has made impressive cars for well over 100 years

Bugatti was established in the early 1900s in Molsheim, France, and has been creating impressive models ever since.

For example, there’s even a forgotten model that was meant to be a $2 million monster, but sadly, only one prototype was ever made

Plus, in light of recent advancements in the car industry, we took a look at how Bugatti built a next-gen 1,800hp hypercar with AI-shaped parts and minimal screens.

So there we have it, out of the four that were made, a rumored 2.5 exist, with the car world still waiting for the Atlantic to rear its head once again.

Let’s face it though, we’ll be waiting a while yet.
