Americans often complain about the parking situation in their areas, but wait until you see what’s going on in Amsterdam.
This European capital is a nightmare for car owners.
There aren’t that many parking spots, and they’re expensive.
And it’s getting worse.

Why owning a car in Amsterdam is challenging
Many cities are nicknamed the ‘Venice of the north/east/whatever’, but with Amsterdam, the expression fits the bill.
Venice can barely fit people and boats (even Jeff Bezos had to learn this the hard way), let alone cars, and Amsterdam is in a very similar situation.
Around one million people live in Amsterdam and only 40 percent of households own a car.
With our math hat on, we’re looking at at least 400,000 cars, and there aren’t enough parking spots for everyone.
The parking situation is even more complicated because the streets are narrow and a parking spot costs around $9 per hour on average.

Still at least the city administration is being clear about what it wants to do moving forward, because Amsterdam is getting rid of thousands of parking spots every year.
It’s as if the administration is telling its citizens, ‘Don’t buy a car, and if you own one, get rid of it.’
What’s the best city in the world if you own a supercar?

We know that Amsterdam is one of the worst cities in the world for car lovers, but what about the best city?
Monaco and London are definitely in the top five when it comes to supercar spotting, and Americans would almost certainly include Miami, which is also a huge supercar hub.
However, if you actually want to own and drive a supercar, Dubai also springs to mind.
Traffic can be bad, but taxes are low, there are plenty of parking spots available, and it’s one of those places where you can leave your supercar with the keys in and no one would bat an eyelid.
