Pennsylvania could be set to welcome flying cars after State Senator Marty Flynn reintroduced a bill to legalize roadable aircraft.

Once strictly the stuff of science fiction, flying cars are quickly becoming a reality.

There are already a handful of companies, including Samson and Alef Aeronautics, that are taking reservations.

And some makers have even said they expect deliveries of their flying cars to begin as soon as next year.

Pennsylvania could be one of the first states to welcome flying cars

With flying cars set to launch in the not-so-distant future, countries are preparing themselves.

In China, experts have estimated that there could be as many as 100,000 zipping through the skies by the end of the decade

Meanwhile, in the US, Pennsylvania State Senator Marty Flynn has taken the first steps to legalizing flying cars in the state.

This month, he reintroduced the Senate Bill 1077, also known as the Jetsons Act.

The proposed bill would amend Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to create a new legal category for roadable aircraft: a hybrid vehicle that can function as both a normal road-going car and an aircraft.

The legislation would allow these vehicles to operate on roads as a car and in the sky as an aircraft.

If the bill passed, it would make Pennsylvania one of the first states to legalize flying cars.

The Jetsons Act was first introduced in November of last year by Flynn, but led to no action being taken, so the Senator has now reintroduced the bill.

“This change would afford Pennsylvania an opportunity to be one of the first states to introduce this revolutionary technology and provide a framework for any special requirements, such as licensing, registration, and safety inspection, for roadable aircraft,” Flynn told Fox 43

Flynn went on to say that the legislation would be important in helping to start introducing ‘key regulations’ to make sure that flying cars are ‘integrated safely into existing traffic systems without causing disruption or safety hazards’.

Two states have already passed legislation

New Hampshire and Minnesota have already passed legislation that recognizes flying cars as legal vehicles.

And Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has said he hopes to pass similar laws by the end of next year.

Transport Secretary Sean Duffy has hailed flying cars as the ‘next great technological revolution in aviation’.

“The United States will lead the way, and doing so will cement America’s status as a global leader in transportation innovation,” he said in a statement.
