One Pennsylvanian woman and her partner came up with a devious way to take $2.4 million worth of stolen vehicles across several states.

Tiffine Kyte was arrested and charged with first-degree motor vehicle larceny and conspiracy.

Kyte and her accomplice are accused of stealing cars across the Northeast US.

Their crime spree went on for a year and followed a consistent pattern over that period.

How this Pennsylvanian woman acquired $2.4m in stolen vehicles by being ‘playful’

In total, 20 stolen vehicles across New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey have been linked to this sting operation.

The perpetrators allegedly played a clever con with car dealerships across these states.

The Old Saybrook Police Department led the investigation into the crime spree, which started back in March 2024.

Kyte and her partner would reportedly go to car dealerships posing as buyers, where they’d request to see specific vehicles and ask to start them up.

While Kyte distracted the salesperson by acting ‘playful’, her partner would swap the real key fob with a decoy.

In other cases, the distraction would allow the other suspect to plug into the vehicle’s OBDII port and clone the key in under a minute.

Once this had been done, they would return to the dealership later and drive off in said vehicle.

Among the vehicles caught up in their two-person crimewave were a 2024 F-450 pickup and two GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimates.

Car theft isn’t usually sophisticated

Kyte was arrested in Warren County, New Jersey, and extradited to Connecticut, where she was charged.

She posted a $275,000 bond after being arraigned.

As of yet, no details have been released regarding her accomplice.

“This case highlights the value of strong partnerships between law enforcement agencies and the private sector,” Old Saybrook Police Chief WIlliam Onofrio said.

“Organized theft rings rely on opportunity and anonymity. When businesses, residents, and police share information and remain vigilant, we significantly reduce those opportunities and protect our communities.”

Unfortunately, car thefts are a common problem in the US.

Remember the Florida man who flew a plane banner after his wife’s Rolls-Royce was stolen?

And then there was the man who was reunited with his stolen car thanks to the intuition of a schoolboy.
