The Pikaboost 2 Lite conversion kit can turn just about any bike into an electric one, for when pedal power just isn’t cutting it.

There are some seriously impressive e-bikes on the market currently, like the Rivian-owned ALSO TM-B, or the 6,000W carbon-fiber Bonell 775 MX, which pack an almighty punch.

However, they usually don’t come cheap – the two mentioned above, for example, cost $3,500 and $5,500, respectively.

But for those who fancy getting themselves an e-bike without the hefty price tag, there are some conversion kits out there – like the Pikaboost 2 Lite that can be fitted onto almost any bike.

The lightweight e-bike conversion kit can be fitted in seconds

Although the Pikaboost 2 won’t give you the sort of power you’d find on some of the high-performance e-bikes that are available, its low price point and convenience make it a sound alternative.

The lightweight device weighs a little over 6.5 pounds (3kg) and is clamped on under the seat with a roller that sits on the rear wheel, which transforms it into an electric bike without the need for a wheel motor or a mid-drive motor.

The kit can be fitted and removed in seconds, so you can easily switch between having an e-bike and a traditional bike, even when you’re out and about.

As well as being simple to install and use, the conversion kit is also a whole lot cheaper than your average e-bike, costing just $329 for the Pikaboost 2 Lite.

It’s powered by a 158Wh battery, which has a maximum power of 500W and gives the e-bike a top speed of around 15mph.

In real terms, its creators say this means it’ll cut your riding intensity down by about half, meaning you can tackle a hill with around half as much effort as you usually would.

The battery offers about 30 miles of range, but you can purchase additional battery packs to keep you on the move.

There’s also a more powerful edition, if that’s your thing

If you’re after a bit more bang for your buck, there’s also the Pikaboost 2 Powerful Edition.

The Powerful model works in exactly the same way in terms of setup and riding.

But, as the name suggests, it’s a slightly more beefed-up conversion kit with a 220Wh battery capacity and a range of more than 40 miles.

It has a higher top speed of 20mph and comes with Cruise Mode and Workout Mode, as well as the standard Assist Mode you get with the Lite edition.

It also costs a bit more at $439, but it’s still a whole lot cheaper than your average e-bike.
