Pontiac's last true muscle car is now a steal

  • Pontiac had a last hurrah back in 2009 with the G8 GXP
  • It’s seen as the automaker’s last true muscle car
  • The powerful beast was what we needed, but it was too little, too late

We all miss the days when GM was still rolling out new Pontiac muscle cars, but if you want to buy Pontiac’s last true muscle car – which came out in 2009 – it’s now an absolute steal.

Pontiac is a true all-American brand that consistently churned out iconic models throughout the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and even through to the 90’s.

Before it shut down, Pontiac had a last hurrah in the form of its last true muscle car, the Pontiac G8 GXP, the most powerful muscle Sedan the automaker had ever created.

It’s a shame for this beast of a muscle car that it was almost the grim reaper for the brand, a fitting send off that is surprisingly low-cost.

The bittersweet-ness of Pontiac’s last true muscle car

If you think of a proper American muscle car, there’s really only really three brands that are the heavy hitters – Dodge, Ford, and the late, great Pontiac.

When General Motors announced that in 2009 that Pontiac would be closing its doors, it also announced the last ever Pontiac muscle car: the Pontiac G8 GXP, set for release in 2008.

America had been crying out for a muscle car like the G8 GXP and it was so bittersweet that this dream car came with the end of the iconic brand.

After consistently producing icons for decades, the Pontiac G8 GXP was a fabulous bookend to the Pontiac era – and it came with a very reasonable price tag.

The G8 GXP is a real steal

The Pontiac G8 GXP was the most powerful muscle car the brand had ever launched, powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine capable of reaching a maximum of 415HP

While it didn’t look very reminiscent of the classic Pontiac muscle car, the G8 GXP looks really menacing with iconic pointy hood nostrils arranged in a sneer.

Pontiac’s last true muscle car can complete a quarter mile in 13 seconds, reaching 60MPH in just four and a half seconds.

Back in 2008, the GXP was five bucks short of $40,000, which is incredibly reasonable for such a powerful beast. Now, in 2025, it costs just $24,700, practically a steal.

If you miss Pontiac as much as we do, you can get your hands on the iconic brand’s last true muscle car for a very reasonable price, and take yourself back to a different time.
