A Porsche 911 sports car left abandoned under a Christmas tree is about to be restored, just in time for the holiday season itself.
The Porsche 911 is the most famous car ever made by the German manufacturer, and classic examples can be worth serious amounts of money.
This particular example is from the 1970s and has been left abandoned for over 30 years, waiting for its chance to roar again on the open road.
Now, it looks like that chance has come at last, after it looked like it could rust away.

How the Porsche 911 was left abandoned
The car is a 1970 Porsche 911 Targa, and it’s sat under the Christmas tree for 31 years.
Currently in Idaho, it has slowly rusted over the years, with squirrels making it their home during that time.
Markos Marzouca is the man who has been looking to save the sports car and restore it.
Speaking to CarScoops, he explained that many had tried to buy this car over the years.

However, no one had been able to make a deal, but Marzouca was recently able to persuade the owner to sell.
The Christmas tree had done a good job at hiding the car, and the ground had virtually swallowed it up.
Despite the fact that the targa top is long gone, the rest of the car appeared to be in good condition.
What’s next for the Christmas tree sports car?
The car was originally sold through Porsche dealer Vasek Polak in California.
Prior to being abandoned, the car had racked up 101,000 miles, an impressive number.
Incredibly, it still has its original 2.0-liter flat-six engine under the hood.
Marzouca has planned to restore this Porsche 911 in stages.
As a nod to its life under the tree, it will be restored in a ‘ratty’ patina.
But it will have the underpinnings fully refurbished.

This will give a mechanically sound car, while also being one that tells the story of its life.
Remarkably, the engine fired up even after three decades under a tree, so there’s clearly still life left in the old sports car.
If all goes to plan, this Porsche 911 Targa might be back on the road again in time for Christmas itself. That’s a full-circle moment if ever we’ve seen one.
