Porsche has revealed that an ‘eye-opening’ EV from Hyundai has inspired how it will make its own electric cars going forward.

The German manufacturer has already built a solid lineup of electric cars over the last few years, but is looking to keep expanding the range.

Frank Moser, vice president of the 718 and 911 model lines, recently admitted that a ‘spicy’ Hyundai EV he drove was an eye-opening experience.

There were a couple of specific features on the model that impressed him most.

Why the Hyundai EV was so ‘eye-opening’

The car in question was the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.

This is the first hot-hatchback EV from the manufacturer, and it adds extra performance to the regular Ioniq 5.

Moser heaped praise on the South Korean car, saying its engineers had ‘made it really, really good’.

Something else he loved was the artificial engine sounds and simulated gear changes on the Ioniq 5 N.

Hyundai calls these N Active Sound+ and N e-shift.

It was these features that apparently gave Porsche lots of ideas for the future.

Moser did reiterate, however, that he believes drivers should be able to choose if they want fake gear changes and engine sounds on or off.

These features could be used in Porsche EVs

The Hyundai has already shown others just how good it can be, but Moser wanted to convince Andreas Preuninger, Project Manager of GT Vehicles, to experience the Ioniq 5 N too.

Initially, he was opposed to anything related to EVs, but the Ioniq reportedly changed his mind.

N Grin Boost is something else that the German manufacturer was impressed by.

This unlocks the full potential of its dual motors, doing so in a ten-second burst, and it’s activated by a red button on the car’s steering wheel.

With the N Grin Boost engaged, Hyundai says power goes up to 641hp and 568lb-ft of torque, with a 0-60mph time of just 3.4 seconds.

Given how impressed they were, Porsche is now reportedly seriously considering adding similar features to its own cars.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the manufacturer incorporates them going forward.
