Porsche is set to debut its evo-spec 911 GT3 R at Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps circuit this weekend in a ‘pivotal test outing’.

The new customer racing model, which is based on the current GT3 race car, will take to the track on April 19 and 20.

The development team behind the vehicle has collaborated with Herberth Motorsport for the test outing.

Porsche says the car will be publicly revealed in the summer and will take part in the 2026 season.

It will be an ‘important test’ for the Porsche 911 GT3 R

The newly updated car will build and improve upon the current model, which debuted in 2023 and has already swiped numerous titles including at the Le Mans 24 Hours and Sebring 12 Hours.

At the weekend, the evo will take on a split-format endurance race – the Michelin 24H Series at Spa-Francorchamps –  with Laurin Heinrich, Alfred Renauer, and Ralf Bohn taking turns behind the wheel.

Following numerous practice sessions, testing, and qualifying, the main event kicks off on Friday, April 19 with a solid five hours of racing.

The action will pick up the next day, with the Porsche 911 GT3 R taking on seven hours of endurance racing.

“The Creventic Series offers the ideal environment for such an important test. The competition features numerous privateer teams racing at a high level, there’s a lot of track time, and the Spa-Francorchamps circuit poses a formidable challenge for both drivers and machines,” said Porsche 911 GT3R Project Manager Sebastian Golz.

“As a long-time Porsche customer team, Herberth Motorsport can provide valuable feedback on vehicle handling, serviceability, ergonomics, and operational functions. We’re also eager to hear the drivers’ impressions.”

The car has some upgrades and modifications

The current model has been claiming titles all over the world, and Porsche hopes the newer version will build on that success.

As for changes made to the car, the carmaker says drivability has been boosted, it has important software updates and modifications to its aerodynamic components.

“For the 2026 racing season, Porsche engineers have placed a strong emphasis on enhancing drivability,” the marque said.

Further technical details will be released in due course, but for now, the carmaker hasn’t shared a date for the official public reveal of the new model.

However, we do know it will be sometime this summer – so watch this space.
