When this Porsche Taycan owner took his car in for its first service, he was left stunned by the cost as compared to gas and diesel cars.

Lee, host of YouTube channel The MacMaster, has made no secret of his skepticism of the Taycan.

One of the advertised benefits of switching to an EV is that it’ll be cheaper than a gas car.

But is that what Lee found when he took his Taycan in for its first service?

What this Porsche Taycan discovered at its first service

Lee has no made bones about the fact that he has some issues with his Porsche Taycan, whether it’s depreciation or hidden costs.

His experience has colored his feelings about all other EVs to some degree.

But if we cast our minds back to his first service, it’s easy to see where his dislike of the Taycan started.

As he drove to the Porsche Center in the British city of Leeds, he told his viewers of his feelings for EVs.

“I’ve not been an advocate for electric cars, really,” he said.

“To be quite honest, I think they’re rubbish and not the future, but we’re not going down that route.”

So evidently, he’s not sitting on the fence in the ongoing EV vs gas car debate.

But focusing on the Taycan itself, he laid out some details – it’d racked up 19,849 miles, and had ‘more recalls than Arnold Schwarzenegger’.

Admittedly, Arnie would probably appreciate this car more than the MacMaster does, considering he invested $1 million into an electric off-roader.

Why exactly was this car going in for a service?

“It’s going in for an aerial, because that’s not working properly, and it’s going in for new tires,” Lee explained.

“The car eats up tires because it’s heavy because of the battery.”

Lee was skeptical of the notion that an EV would provide savings when compared to a gas car.

“It’s astronomical,” he claimed of the costs.

“It used to cost me about $864 (£700) for a service on my Boxster, which would be oil change, fluids, you get the idea.”

So with all that being said, how much did his visit to a Porsche Center cost him in the end?

The price of the bill will shock you

By the end of his video, Lee was standing outside the Porsche Center, holding his bill and not feeling particularly happy about it.

“It’s the first time anyone has taken the time to explain what’s involved with the service of an electric car,” he told his viewers.

“You’d think it’s just batteries, but there’s quite a list of things on them they need to check.

“Electric cars are more expensive than a petrol or a diesel, especially if you don’t have a charging point at home.”

And now it was time for the big reveal – what figure was sitting on that bill and due to leave his bank account?

It came to $925 (£750) for the service alone, but new tires bumped the price up to $1,851 (£1,500). But then again, it is a Porsche.

Ultimately, Lee was left feeling vindicated in his original feelings about EVs.

“I think if you’re running around town in a little Mini, and you’re charging at home, it might work out cheaper,” he said.

“But if you’re doing long journeys, I stick by what I said.

“EVs the future? Nah.”
