As you may know, the late Queen Elizabeth II was a big fan of cars – she had quite the collection, which included the second most expensive car in the world. But that’s not what was special about it.
The British monarch was chauffeured in a one-off Bentley that was built specifically to mark her Golden Jubilee.
While it did not look flashy from the outside, the car quietly became one of the most valuable and complex vehicles ever created.
Every detail of the limousine was designed around royalty, security, and a precise public role.

Queen Elizabeth II owned the second most expensive car in the world
The Bentley State Limousine luxury car was delivered to Queen Elizabeth II in 2002 to celebrate 50 years on the throne, during her Golden Jubilee.
Bentley built just two of them, making the car instantly one of the rarest vehicles ever produced.
Each one reportedly cost around $10 million at the time, which placed it just behind the most expensive new car in the world then.
This was not a modified production model, though; Bentley started from scratch, creating a custom platform that could handle extreme weight from armor and security systems.
The car was long, tall, and imposing, designed to command attention without being ostentatious, and despite its size, it was engineered to be smooth and dignified at low speeds during ceremonial events.

Under the hood sat a 6.75-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, an engine shared with Rolls-Royce models of the era.
Performance was not the priority, but huge amounts of power were necessary to move a vehicle that weighed several tons once fully armored.
Everything about the car existed to serve the late Queen’s role rather than any traditional automotive speed benchmark.

It was an extremely unique design
The most remarkable part of the second most expensive car in the world was its security specification.
The cabin was fully armored and could be sealed airtight in the event of a chemical attack; the glass was specially reinforced, and the body panels were designed to resist explosions and ballistic threats.
The tires were Kevlar-reinforced and capable of continuing to roll even if punctured.
The doors were extremely heavy but engineered to open and close smoothly so the Queen could enter and exit gracefully.

Large windows were deliberately included so she could be clearly seen by crowds during public appearances.
Inside, the rear seats were trimmed with lambswool, and the cabin offered generous headroom to accommodate standing entry.
The car was built to balance safety, comfort, and visibility in a way no other vehicle ever had to.
Today, the two special Bentleys remain in service, now carrying King Charles III, cementing their place as some of the most extraordinary cars ever made.
