Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan al Nahyan, also known as the Rainbow Sheikh, is an Abu Dhabi royal and billionaire with a $20 billion net worth and an incredible car collection.

The size of his collection is impressive, but what’s even more impressive is the variety.

The Rainbow Sheikh owns a lot of custom-made cars, and some of them are truly weird.

His collection is worth around $160 million, and it’s easy to see why.

How the billionaire Rainbow Sheikh created his car collection

The Rainbow Sheikh’s collection comprises thousands of vehicles stored in four different museums in Abu Dhabi, and most of these vehicles were custom-built for him.

It’s impossible to list every car he owns, but we can start by mentioning the collection of seven Mercedes 500SELs, one for every color of the rainbow, that earned him the moniker ‘Rainbow Sheikh’.

He later added an eighth Mercedes 500SEL to the collection, and this one is painted using all seven colors of the rainbow in one car.

He also owns the largest car in the world, a Hummer H1 as tall as a building and with rooms and bathrooms inside.

Amazingly, the H1 is a drivable vehicle despite being 21 feet tall.

Another record holder in the Sheikh’s garage is a 1950s Dodge Power Wagon.

Except this version is 64 times the size of the original model, making it the world’s biggest pickup truck.

The Rainbow Sheikh’s car collection is valued at around $160 million which, for a guy worth $20 billion in total, isn’t even that much.

The Rainbow Sheikh’s biggest ‘rival’

A few thousand miles south east of Abu Dhabi you’ll find Brunei, a small country run by a billionaire Sultan who’s arguably the only collector who can compete with the Rainbow Sheikh when it comes to cars.

Size and value are a factor, because both the Sultan and the Sheikh have collections with thousands of cars worth millions, but what truly unites these two collections is that nearly every car they own is bespoke.

According to most sources, the Sultan of Brunei owns at least 7,000 carsincluding hundreds of Rolls-Royce vehicles, most made specifically for him.

He even holds a Guinness World Record for his Rolls-Royces.

The Sultan also bought seven one-off Ferraris you won’t find anywhere else, as well as a gold-plated Rolls-Royce, which is apparently the world’s most expensive royal car.

But his biggest flex was probably buying 23 Bentleys straight from the company, most built on commission for him specifically.
