Some rare footage has revealed the moment a supersonic airliner, Concorde, aborted a takeoff on a Boston-bound flight due to an engine issue.

Concorde was one of the safest airliners ever built, with only one fatal accident occurring in France in 2000.

For the most part, the aircraft was incredibly safe, but that didn’t mean there weren’t some problems, as shown in this video that recently appeared on Instagram.

In the video, the aircraft failed to take off due to an engine issue, and while it caused a delay for its passengers, the aircraft was fixed and flew later that day.

Concorde suffered an afterburner failure on the Boston-bound flight

As the video shows, the supersonic airliner had to abort its takeoff run with the pilot coming over the radio.

The British Airways crew revealed that one of the jet’s four afterburners failed to ignite during the takeoff run.

Concorde needs all four to light up to get off the ground safely and to reach supersonic speeds.

In the video, we can see it accelerate before it rolls back, and the pilot slows the aircraft down.

According to the post, the issue caused a three-hour delay to the aircraft’s flight.

However, it was rectified, and the aircraft made the fastest crossing of the Atlantic from Europe that day.

The supersonic airliner had a good safety record

While this sounds like an alarming incident, the reality is that it was pretty minor.

Despite the delay, mechanics were able to fix the afterburner and enable the jet to take off.

For most of its career, Concorde had an excellent safety record.

The tragic accident in Paris in 2000 was the only major blemish on its safety statistics.

The supersonic airliner flew in service from 1976 to 2003, and made its first flight in France in 1969.

With a top speed of over 1,300mph, or Mach 2, Concorde captivated people all around the world.

Many still believe it to be the greatest achievement in aviation history, commercial or otherwise.

Since the aircraft last flew in 2003, no other supersonic airliner has taken to the skies.

While Boom Supersonic is developing the Overture, there will never be another aircraft quite like Concorde.
