A super rare 1970 Ford Falcon XY spent half a century parked beneath a home in Brisbane, Australia.

The ‘one-of-one’ Falcon was parked up underneath the property, accessed via a vine-covered staircase.

And that was where it spent a whopping 50 years, before its owner Clive Anderson decided to dig it out.

Believe it or not, folks parking up their classic cars and then seemingly forgetting all about them isn’t a rare occurrence.

The Ford Falcon XY spent 50 years stashed away

This man stashed away his 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette for almost 40 years; while Harry Potter star Richard Harris left his Rolls-Royce Phantom parked up in a New York garage where it had racked up a hefty parking fee.

And over in Australia, Anderson handed over AUS$3,800 for the Falcon back in 1972 and would used it as his main vehicle.

“It’s just what we all drove back in those days,” he told 7 News.

But a few years later he was given a work and decided to tuck the Falcon away under his house.

And, as we’ve seen with abandoned vehicles in the past, after several years parked the car stopped working altogether, meaning that Anderson had little choice but to leave it where it was.

But in November last year, Anderson decided to hire experts to drag the car out from under his house so he could put it up for auction.

The car is a rare find and could be worth a decent amount

It turns out that the lucky owner had a bit of a rare gem on his hands.

The car, which still has its original logbook, was a ‘special build’ that was initially owned by The Ford Motor Company.

“It’s one-of-one,” said auctioneer Rian Gaffey from Gray’s Australia. “It was a Ford Motor Company car.”

Not only that, but the car – which was in great condition despite its decades off the road – had just 96,500km (60,000 miles) on the odometer and its entire history is known.

The car’s rarity, coupled with its low mileage, means that Gaffey was fairly confident about the sale.

“It’s going to go very, very well,” he told 7 News. “They’re very, very rare. They’re getting rarer and rarer.”

To think it was just gathering dust for decades.
