A Toyota Hilux that has appeared on Facebook Marketplace in New Jersey features one of the rarest additional options the truck ever came with – a bed-mounted electric crane.
The Toyota Hilux is a legend in the truck world.
It’s almost indestructible – ask the Top Gear tv guys – and able to cope with almost anything thrown at it.
So, add a crane onto the back and you’ve got pretty much the ultimate apocalypse-mobile.

We all know what to expect from Toyota, the Japanese brand is world-renowned for making affordable, reliable, and hard-wearing cars across the entire motoring spectrum.
In fact, it’s absolutely no surprise that several of their cars are amongst the highest-mileage cars of all time.
What’s more, they continue to go from strength to strength, and the Toyota Corolla is still one of the best-selling cars in the world.
But, this Hilux is much more rare, much more sought-after, and something truly special.
That’s why it’s so strange that it has turned up on Facebook Marketplace.
This Toyota Hilux found on Facebook Marketplace is special
This particular model has a crane on the back, which was a factory option at the time this version was released, if you can believe it.
Available on Facebook Marketplace in New Jersey, this 1995 Hilux SSR-X is on sale for just $22,000.
That’s a steal for a car that has a pretty low mileage for the age – around 130,000 miles – and did we mention it has a freakin’ crane on the back?
That crane also doubles up as a rollbar, in case you’re interested.
It’s a right-hand drive truck with a 2.4 liter four-cylinderturbodiesel engine paired with a four-speed automatic gearbox.
It’s in good nick, so it’s a decent truck before you get to that rare factory option sticking up out of the bed.
According to the listing, this is one of just three examples in the US, and you would be well within your rights to ask why exactly Toyota decided to mount a crane onto a non-commercial pick-up truck.
Why does this truck need a crane on the back?
Well, according to a press release: “A crane is mounted on the rear for lifting sports gear such as off-road motorbikes.”
Theoretically, that’s a good use case for the crane, but we’re also sure you can come up with other ideas, too.
The crane is capable of lifting up to 450 kilograms – nearly 1,000lbs – so the world is your oyster – though you’ll also need the detachable stabilizer to stop the truck from flipping under the weight.
What’s more, it folds away so as to be almost unnoticeable if you want, meaning that you don’t have to advertise the car’s craning capacity at all times.
So, if you’re after a truck that can really do it all, maybe this is the one you’ve been looking for.
