Texas man receives package from retiring friend and inside are the keys and title to one of the rarest muscle cars

Rob Lamy recently received a 1971 Plymouth Cuda with a Six-Barrel engine for his Mopar collection, gaining one of the rarest muscle cars in Texas.

The legal documents arrived by mail from a retiring friend who wanted to ensure the high-performance coupe stayed with a dedicated specialist.

This purple survivor spent over thirty years hidden in storage before Lamy began the process of verifying its factory specifications.

The contents of that delivery represent a historical find that few collectors ever get to experience in person.

The mail-order jackpot for rarest muscle cars

Lamy met the previous owner 21 years ago at the Lakewood Yacht Club while helping him restore his first classic car.

The pair spent the next two decades working together to hunt down specific vehicles for a private Mopar collection.

Lamy acted as the primary mechanic for this 1971 Plymouth Cuda for ten years and often joked that it was practically his own.

When the owner decided to retire and move away, he sent the title and keys to Lamy as a final thank you.

This car is a significant find because it features the high-performance Six-Barrel engine and an automatic transmission.

Official production data shows that Plymouth built only 254 units with the 440 Six-Barrel engine during the 1971 run.

Only 108 of those buyers chose the automatic hardtop configuration, making this specific car one of the rarest muscle cars on the road.

The odometer shows 51,000 miles, and the car still wears its factory In-Violet paint.

Eleanor Baillieu, an automotive presenter and host of the Paddock 43 motorsport podcast, weighs in on the significance of such a discovery.

“Finding a car with this level of untouched documentation is incredibly rare in today’s market,” Baillieu told Supercar Blondie.

“While many claim to have the rarest muscle cars, having a broadcast sheet that mirrors a dual-fender body tag so perfectly sets the gold standard for any serious Mopar collection.”

Lamy has spent years checking every bolt to ensure the car stays accurate for his own garage.

Every piece of documentation suggests that this is one of the rarest muscle cars currently outside of a museum.

Six-barrel engine power and Mopar history

The 1971 Plymouth Cuda was part of the final group of cars built before new laws forced manufacturers to lower engine power.

The Six-Barrel engine used three separate carburetors to give the car more speed when the driver pressed the pedal all the way down.

Experts track these specific 1971 models as the rarest muscle cars because the big 440 and Hemi engines were cancelled the following year.

This car also has rare roof gauges and a soft headliner that most people did not order at the time.

Market prices for a documented 1971 Plymouth Cuda with a Six-Barrel engine have stayed high due to how hard they are to find.

Lamy takes the car to local shows to explain the history of the Mopar collection to younger fans.

The car is a clear example of how manufacturers prioritized style and power during the early seventies.

These rarest muscle cars will likely become even harder to find as more collectors hold onto them for long periods.

Lamy treats the car as a piece of history and keeps it ready to drive at a moment’s notice.

The purple Cuda still runs and sounds the same way it did when it first left the factory floor over fifty years ago.

Lamy plans to pass the keys to his son one day to keep the car in the family.

This gift ensures that a significant piece of the original Mopar collection stays within the community for years to come.
