Barn finds can throw up all manner of weird and wonderful vehicles, but we think you’d struggle to find anything quite as unusual as this 1964 Glide-A-Ride people transporter.

The Glide-A-Ride was operated by Greyhound and was used to transport people around the 1964 New York World Fair.

It had a specially-designed tractor at the front that was used to pull a tram-style car and could carry up to 60 people.

And now, one has recently been placed up for sale on Facebook Marketplace

The Glide-A-Ride people transporter was rescued from ‘rotting into the ground’

Facebook Marketplace can be quite the treasure trove when it comes to unusual vehicles, take a look at this street-legal Chevy Camaro golf cart or this Honda CR-V 2.2CDTI that has been covered in brown fur

But even by those eye-brow raising standards, this Glide-A-Ride tractor stands out.

In the listing, the seller explained they rescued it from ‘rotting into the ground’ in Rhode Island and now it’s on the hunt for a new owner.

The vehicle was made by Clark Equipment Company and was powered by a Continental 2.6-liter, F162 flathead four cylinder that was able to produce up to 37 horsepower – because, let’s face it, the Glide-A-Ride wasn’t built for speed.

The seller has fitted the car with new tires and says that it ‘rolls and steers’, although the engine is locked.

Its fiberglass bodywork is in need of some attention, but it does come with the original canopy over the top and is in one-piece, so that’s a good start, right?

Underneath, the super thick steel frame has, as you might expect, held up pretty well.

The seller, who noted that all of the Glide-A-Ride cars had gone by the time he found it, has put a $2,500 asking price on the people transporter.

Not your thing? Then how about a super-fast bumper car?

Whoever buys the Glide-A-Ride will then be faced with what to do with the unusual buy, but as its fitted with an engine there’s always a chance to turn it in to something fun.

Like, the man who bought a 1960 bumper car and fitted it with a 100hp 600cc sports bike engine

The bumper car, which has earned itself a Guinness World Record, has a top speed of 107mph.
