In a bid to do something ‘no other YouTuber’ has done before, popular YouTube personality Rich Rebuilds bought the McLaren 720S that was dubbed ‘too dangerous’ to fix and got it driving again.

Having become a sensation on YouTube, Rich Rebuilds spends most of time underneath the hood of old-school sports cars and new EVs.

But, it took him years to get his hands on a supercar.

So when the chance arose to get this McLaren 720S on the cheap, he took the opportunity with both hands, even though it needed a lot of work.

Buying the ‘too dangerous’ McLaren 720S supercar

The popular mechanic is often found uploading to his channel with fun and quirky cars, restoring some of the hardest vehicles in the US.

One was a dead Cadillac that only took a piece of sandpaper to fix, but few people would have ever managed it.

But in his biggest job ever, he took on this ‘too dangerous’ McLaren 720S and went to work restoring it to its former glory. And that glory is rich.

Straight off the bat, the front mounting points, the rear crash bar, the braking system, and axles all needed his attention, as he struggled to import all of the parts from the McLaren HQ in the UK.

In a painstaking process, he continued to rebuild the clutch and transmission, the engine ignition system, the suspension accumulators, the intake, exhaust, and bodywork, eventually ensing off his exterior to a paint shop for a blue-grey hue.

Having got his greasy wrench into every nook and cranny of the McLaren 720S supercar, his first rebuild of a vehicle of this magnitude appeared to be a resounding success.

Then it was time for its big test.

Rich Rebuilds does what ‘no other YouTuber’ would

After the rebuild was complete, Rich Rebuilds got behind the wheel and did something no one else has filmed yet: driving it.

While many have rebuilt these magnificent cars, putting their work to the test hasn’t been showcased.

“I decided to do what no other YouTuber has done,” he claimed.

“After fixing a car, I decided to actually drive it, getting it registered, getting it insured, and driving it with no temp tags.

“I actually committed to my creation, and I got it on the road, legally, driving it for more than 30 seconds in a video.”

He claimed that this is the first time anyone has done it with a McLaren 720S.

“Most supercar owners just take them, wash them, and put them back in the garage. But these rallies are for people who actually want to drive,” he continued.

As for the drive, well, as the first major breakthrough vehicle for the brand, it’s no surprise that it holds up, even with the rebuild.

Revealing it as ‘surprisingly compliant’, the YouTuber was stunned by its speed and handling.
