A Russian man turned his Mercedes CLS AMG 63 into a time capsule after burying it underground with himself inside.

The bizarre stunt was shared online, where most folks had the same question: ‘why?’

The footage showed the car being buried, and then revealed the driver sat inside the vehicle, which served as an unusual time capsule.

At this point, we’d like to make it very clear that this is not something you should try at home. At best, you’ll probably ruin your car and at worst… well, let’s not go there.

The man buried himself inside his Mercedes CLS AMG 63

While not exactly a common occurrence, people have decided to bury cars in the past.

In the UK, back in 1960s, a man was told by mechanics that his Ford Popular was a total write-off, and because he didn’t fancy paying a fee to have it taken away, he decided instead to bury it and it was eventually unearthed decades later.

However, this Russian man took things a somewhat disturbing step further by entombing both his Mercedes CLS AMG 63 and himself in dirt.

In a clip shared to Instagram, the white Mercedes CLS AMG 63 can be seen being carefully reversed into a huge hole in the ground.

The car, with the driver still inside, was then completely covered with mud with the help of an excavator.

The video then cut to the driver inside the car, with the windows and windshield piled with mud and dirt.

The man had a small bottle of sparkling wine in his hand and appeared to be settled in for a while.

A caption alongside the clip, which was shared on January 1, read: “I’m [in] CLS in the ground now. There’s a little bit of internet. There is also air. HAPPY NEW YEAR! I will not say exactly where I am buried. I’ll take a break from people for a bit.”

The post was quickly flooded with folks questioning why he would do such a thing, but the driver didn’t respond to any of them.

For anyone concerned about how it turned out for the Russian driver, you’ll be pleased to know he has since posted several clips of both himself and his Mercedes CLS AMG 63, and they both appear to be fine.

Just don’t try this at home, OK?

The town that entombed a brand-new Plymouth Belvedere

This Russian motorist isn’t the first person to turn a car into a time capsule to be dug up at a later date.

Back in the 1950s, a brand-new Plymouth Belvedere was buried in Oklahoma as part of an unusual publicity stunt for the town of Tulsa.

The car, nicknamed Miss Belverdere, was buried beneath the local courthouse in 1957 with instructions to dig it up 50 years later in 2007.

Despite encasing the Plymouth Belvedere in a purpose-built concrete vault in an attempt to keep it safe, water made its way inside.

And when the vault was cracked open in 2007, poor old Miss Belvedere was destroyed.
