A Texas man surprised his dad by reuniting him with the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro he had to sell more than 40 years ago to pay for diapers.

The touching story began 41 years ago when a 22-year-old Earl Guynes was offered the chance to buy his dream car.

Guynes, who worked in the automotive industry, snapped up the 1967 Marina blue Chevy Camaro SS, complete with a small-block V8 engine.

However, fast forward a few years, and Guynes got hitched to wife Mona, becoming a dad to her daughter Jennifer and welcoming son Jared a couple of years later.

The dad had been forced to sell his 1967 Camaro in the 1980s

As a dad to two little ones, Guynes knew the time had come to part with his beloved Camaro, but in the years that followed he never forgot about it.

“I used to tease Jared quite a bit, ‘I used to have a car like that over there’,” he told NBCDFW.

“And I said, ‘yeah, I let it go for diaper money. You needed diapers and so that’s what happened to the car.’”

The sweet story stuck with Jared and in 2021 he decided he would track down the car and buy it for his dad – a task that was easier said than done.

As the car was sold for cash, Jared had no proof of sale and spent a whole year hunting for the Camaro.

Finally, in 2022, he got a lead, when a Marine blue Chevy Camaro was discovered just 70 miles from where they lived.

The car was in need of some TLC

The car turned out to be the same one his dad had sold on four decades previously.

Sadly, the car had seen better days and Jared spent the next two years painstakingly restoring the car before presenting it to his dad on his 65th birthday – bringing him to tears.

Jared told NBCDFW he wanted his dad to know how much he loves him and to thank him for being such a great dad. Is someone chopping onions?

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a kind-hearted relative determined to reunite their loved one with a long-lost vehicle.

Back in 2019, YouTuber Austin Van Dyke surprised his dad by presenting him with the very same 1968 Pontiac GTO he had sold 20 years previous.

While a dedicated wife in Michigan managed to track down a Ford Mustang belonging to her husband and spent months secretly saving so she could buy it as an anniversary gift.

How sweet is that?
