While many manufacturers are lending their tech to explore the greater universe, Stellantis is devoted to exploring Earth, and has partnered to create an underwater observation capsule for deep-sea diving.
Stellantis might be gearing up on the roads to rival companies like Tesla, but in the wider world, its rockets are staying on Earth, shooting downwards instead of up.
In a bid to continue the exploration of our gargantuan seas, the carmaker has now partnered with Under the Pole.
Together, they will build a capsule to submerge into the depths of the ocean.

Stellantis is in for a huge year when it comes to its on-road capabilities.
This year, the company celebrates its Chrysler subsidiaries’ 100th anniversary
So Stellantis will be taking a fleet of concepts, Jeeps, Dodges, and other American stars to the New York International Auto Show, showing off everything in its vehicular future.
But the automaker is no stranger to getting hands-on with other tech ventures, previously splashing a cool $150m on the building of an eVTOL warship named Archer.
Now, though, the manufacturer is dipping its toes in the water – literally – of sea exploration.
Together with Under the Pole, it will create ‘Capsule II’ to be deployed in 2026.

Under the Pole has previously created a capsule, hence the sequel name of this project, which was launched in the waters of French Polynesia back in 2017.
The project saw them reveal ‘invaluable’ information about marine and coral life, all while not disturbing the habitats by ‘floating’ in the water rather than crashing through the surface.
However, the new Capsule II is using Stellantis and Peugeot’s expertise to improve the interior of the underwater observation capsule. They’ll be adding communication systems, screens, and improved ergonomics.
The new capsule will launch in an undisclosed location next year, where it will continue the observation of the wonderful aquatic life at the deepest points humans can travel to.

Strangely enough, the carmaker will be mimicking the i-Cockpit design that it recently scrapped for cars.
Underwater exploration is becoming increasingly efficient, with China creating a robotic mobile shark and another manufacturer building an amphibious bulldozer.
Even the Supercar Blondie team has been in the world’s first ‘submarine car,’ named U-Boat Nemo II – but we didn’t touch the boat.
