Want a car that goes the distance? A study of more than 174 million vehicles has revealed which four brands have an above-average chance of hitting 250,000 miles.

We’d all like to think our cars would last a long while.

But in reality, we often have to sell up when our daily drivers don’t last the long haul.

However, with these four brands, your chances of getting a high miler will improve drastically.

Vehicles from these four brands have above-average chance of hitting 250,000 miles

iSeeCars Longest-Lasting Cars study takes a look at the cars with the longest lifespans.

25 vehicles were highlighted as being most likely to reach 250,000 miles, with 11 SUVs, seven sedans, six pickup trucks, and one minivan making up the list.

Four brands did particularly well.

The top-performing car was the Toyota Sequoia, with a 39.1 percent chance of reaching 250,000 miles.

In fact, Toyota was the car brand with the most vehicles on this list, taking up 10 of the 25 spots.

Other Toyotas represented included the 4Runner (2nd place at 32.9 percent), the Highlander Hybrid (3rd place at 31 percent), and the Tundra (4th place at 30 percent).

Honda also did well, with five models cracking the top 25 (the Ridgeline, the Pilot, the Odyssey, the Civic, and the CR-V).

Lexus came in third with the IS, the GX, the RX hybrid, and the RX, all featured.

And then there’s Acura, of which the ILX and the MDX were both mentioned.

These four brands are the only ones sitting above the industry average of 4.8 percent.

“Japanese cars have a well-earned reputation for high quality and durability,” iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer said.

“After looking at the lifespan data on over 174 million vehicles, iSeeCars can confirm the Japanese car reputation for durability is well earned, with Toyota, Lexus, Honda, and Acura producing cars with a better-than-average chance of hitting 250,000 miles.”

Which brands performed best by category of vehicle?

iSeeCars also ranked vehicles by their type, with separate rankings for hybrids, SUVS, pickup trucks, and sedans.

In the case of hybrids, it was the Toyota Highlander Hybrid that came out on top.

For SUVs, it was the Toyota Sequoia, the Ram 3500 for trucks, and the Lexus IS for sedans.

This study illuminates which cars will be most reliable for you in the long haul.

Studies have a way of doing that by shedding light on aspects of cars that we may otherwise overlook.

One study out of Sweden debunked a huge myth that circulates around EVs, whilst another highlighted why green brake lights could be beneficial.

But then there are the studies that reveal something about us – the humans driving these cars.

For example, studies have suggested that more people are open to buying Chinese vehicles, whether in the US or in Europe.

It’d be interesting to see how many of them would opt for a Japanese car, especially taking the results of the iSeeCars survey into consideration.
