When you think of Porsche, you most likely think of the sort of high-end vehicles most of us dream of owning.

The luxury marque is the creator of some of the most iconic and desirable cars ever made.

And if you’ve ever wanted to know a little more about the brand, then you’re in the right place.

Why is Porsche called Porsche?

Porsche – or Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG to give it its full moniker – was founded in Germany in 1931.

It was founded by a Czech-German automotive engineer named Ferdinand Porsche with Adolf Rosenberger and Anton Piëch.

The company’s full name is short for Ferdinand Porsche’s title in German – Doktor Ingenieur honoris causa – but that’s a bit of a mouthful, so it is usually shortened to Porsche.

What year did Porsche start making cars?

When it was founded back in the early 1930s, Porsche functioned as an automotive development and consultancy company and didn’t make cars under its own name.

One of the first assignments Porsche worked on was the Volkswagen Beetle.

The Porsche 356, released in 1948, was the first-ever production Porsche model.

Where are Porsche built?

Porsche vehicles are built across several locations in Germany, including at its headquarters and main factory in Zuffenhausen, in Stuttgart, and Leipzig.

While parts for the Cayenne are assembled in the Volkswagen Touareg factory in Bratislava, Slovakia.

How many Porsche cars are built per year?

Porsche produced 321,321 vehicles in 2022, up more than 20,000 from 2021 – and delivered 309,884.

Of these, the Porsche Cayenne SUV is the best-seller, with 95,604 delivered in 2022, followed by the Macan, which sold 86,724.

What notable car models does Porsche make?

Although Porsche is very much a sports car company at heart, these days its SUV models – the Cayenne and Macan – are its best sellers.

But over the years, Porsche has created some of the most iconic and beloved sports cars out there including the Porsche 911, the Boxter, and the Cayman.

Which is the most expensive Porsche?

The most expensive Porsche ever was a Porsche 917 K that sold for a staggering $14 million at auction back in 2017.

When it comes to current production models, the most expensive is the Porsche 911 S/T, which starts from $290,000 but can go up to $374,600 depending on which options you choose.

Which is the cheapest Porsche?

While some Porsche models sell for millions, there are slightly cheaper options out there.

A 2024 Porsche Macan has a starting price of $62,550, while a 2025 Porsche 718 Cayman comes with a $74,795 starting price tag.

Still beyond the means of most of us, but not quite up there with the Porsche 917 K.

What is the fastest Porsche?

The Porsche 918 Spyder is by far the the fastest model from the carmaker.

The vehicle was produced between 2013 and 2015 and is still regarded as one of the fastest cars ever made.

The Porsche 918 Spyder managed 0-100km/h (0–62mph) in just 2.5 seconds; it hit 0-200km/h (0–124mph) in 7.0 seconds; and 00–300km/h (0-186mph) in 19.1 seconds.

It also had a top speed of 352km/h (218.7mph).

Which Porsche concept car should you know about?

The Porsche Mission X is an all-electric concept sports car that was unveiled back in June 2023.

Alex Hirschi – AKA Supercar Blondie herself – was one of the very few lucky people who was given a chance to drive the slick-looking motor.

And later this year, the Mission X is set to go from concept car to production vehicle – so watch this space.
