READ MORE: Musk says he WILL step down as Twitter CEO

When he took over Twitter last year, Musk said he wanted to figure out a way to make the social media company profitable.

Since then, he has has basically been throwing ideas at the wall to see what sticks.

CHECK THIS OUT!

The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX initially came up with ‘Twitter blue’, a new feature that gave everyone the chance to get verified for a fee.

This backfired because it meant anybody could just pay the fee and impersonate a celebrity or a big brand with a verified account.

We also ended up with verified Twitter accounts for ‘Jesus Christ’ and ‘Satan’ – and these are just two examples.

To be fair, a lot of people found the latter part quite amusing.

Be that as it may, Musk had to change the color of the coveted Twitter verified ‘tick’.

Under the new system, Twitter Blue users get a blue checkmark, celebs and companies get a gold badge and government accounts get a light grey badge.

Over the last few days, several creators shared an email from Twitter in which they were offered the chance to get the gold badge for $1,000.

It’s unclear whether the new scheme will also apply to existing gold-verified companies or not but it would certainly increase Twitter’s revenue by a considerable margin.

The new system would mostly affect companies with a global brand.

Adidas, for example, has a variety of verified accounts from its Adidas Soccer and Basketball accounts to a long list of country-specific accounts.

On the plus side, Musk also announced Twitter will start sharing ad revenue with creators.

The only caveat is this only applies to Twitter Blue Verified accounts.
